A journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you control it. -John Steinbeck
Chris writes the words. A former ski-bum, now self-employed landscape gardener; he (proudly) has never worked in an office for a day of his life. Somewhat accident prone, he sets off airport alarms with his Epi-pen and all the metal holding his body together. Known to sing songs of delight about favorite foods, including bagels.
Helen takes the photos. Totally non-competitive unless it’s miniature golf. After a hole in one through a windmill’s sails, she is known to talk about golf being in her blood. Irritated by being underestimated, especially at whitewater rafting. Most likely to only buy things on trips that are large, fragile or heavy, including life-size lawn flamingos.
I haven’t been everywhere but it’s on my list. -Susan Sontag
How to travel the goingonholidaybymistake way.
Experience has taught us that the best way to adventure is to always say yes. Always. Even when you don’t know what you are saying yes to. Mainly when you don’t know what you are saying yes to.
This basic tenet has led to our best adventures (and misadventures) including dancing at midnight in a Soweto nightclub with a DJ and drummer, painting the world’s largest totem pole in Victoria, Canada, driving the Statue of Liberty ferry in NYC and meeting the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, India.
We find after years of struggle that we do not take a trip; a trip takes us. -John Steinbeck
When Chris and Helen aren’t on holiday by mistake, they live in Seattle, Washington, USA.
